Coping is a skill set, and like any skill, it takes practice. Facing moderate levels of stress allows us to practice managing it, learn from our experiences, and apply that knowledge the next time we face stress. We can hone our coping strategies and become more effective managers of stressful situations by facing stress, which will improve our skill of active coping.
